REMOVING DOUBTS ABOUT WHAT CUTS THE SEEKER OFF FROM THE PATH OF THE MASTERS

Indeed, the Tijaniyyah are a people known for their adherence to the principles of Islamic Sharia throughout the ages, and the barking of dogs does not harm the sun.  


Our master, the Hidden Seal, Abu al-Abbas al-Tijani, said: "If you hear anything from me, weigh it by the scale of Sharia. What agrees with it, take it, and what opposes it, leave it." This article is the foundation upon which everything related to the Tariqa is built. So if we see anything attributed to our path that does not accord with the spirit of Islamic Sharia, we cast it aside.


A few days ago we saw on social media people who described the Tijaniyyah and other Sufi orders with things the pen shies away from mentioning. They magnified the conditions of these paths, and their souls even emboldened them to speak ill of the saints of Allah, claiming that they brought what the Prophet did not bring and forbade what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded.


And so I - with my limited knowledge and experience - will clarify for them what has become confusing to them regarding the path of the people.


Before going into the core of the clarification, I give the readers glad tidings that all the saints are above our heads, and none of us has the right to diminish the status of any of them on the pretext that we are defending so-and-so or that we belong to so-and-so. "That was a nation which has passed on. It will have [the consequence of] what it earned, and you will have what you have earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do." 2:140


The Tijaniyyah Tariqa has many conditions and various elements, but they do not exceed three:


✓ Conditions of Validity


✓ Conditions of Perfection 


✓ General Conditions


And the first of these conditions is maintaining the obligatory prayers in congregation. This is a condition that many of those who attribute themselves to this noble Ahmadi Tariqa have neglected in this era.  


"Everyone claims connection to Layla,  

But Layla does not acknowledge that for them."


Among the conditions that some people do not accept is what the crown of our heads, Abu al-Abbas al-Tijani, said: "Three things cut the disciple off from us: taking a wird upon our wird, visiting saints and abandoning the wird."


Scholars of the Tariqa, whose status cannot be understated, have already commented sufficiently on these conditions. But this poor servant will also add his bucket to the wells, even if the lame does not reach the pace of the strong.



"Taking a wird upon the Shaykh's wird"


The paths to Allah are as numerous as the breaths of creation, so it is not permissible for anyone to speak ill of one who follows a path that leads him to Allah. Allah has His own affairs with His creation.


Reaching the Divine Presence is something that requires the seeker to follow a guide who will show him and bring him near to that Presence. Ibn Ashir affirmed this in his didactic poem:  


He should accompany a Shaykh who knows the ways,  

Who will protect him from the perils on his path.


So whoever wishes to follow the path of the gnostics must follow a sincere Shaykh who is knowledgeable, insightful, and spiritually unveiled, who will cleanse him of all the spiritual impurities of the self.



So can one combine between two Shaykhs or more?  


It has long been known in the way of the people that it is extremely difficult for one who combines two intermediaries to reach the Divine Presence. He is like one who wants to travel on two horses - how could he arrive?!


I gave an example for this in some of my posts when I said: 


A discussion took place between me and some of my noble brothers about what cuts the seeker off from Shaykh al-Tijani, and I said to them: Do you see, if a student enrolls in a Markaz school to study while he is still a student in a Adaby or Zumari school, what will be the outcome of his studies in the end?  

Such a student who wants to obtain knowledge from two different schools with different curricula and training is like a seeker who wants to combine two paths/two Shaykhs to reach the door of Allah.



"Not visiting the saints"


What the Shaykh said about not visiting any of the saints does not mean prohibition or dislike. Rather, it is to safeguard the hearts of the seekers in receiving the divine lights. The lights do not crowd each other, but they may be too heavy for the heart of a weak seeker unless they come from a single source. And reaching the Presence may become difficult for one who is accustomed to visiting saints, because his self may suggest to him that his Shaykh has not reached the rank of other Shaykhs, and this distances him from the Presence. And none understands this except those of knowledge.


A tangible example of this condition: Suppose a middle school or high school student takes Fiqh from scholars who differ in their madhhabs - while we are certain that all the madhhabs are valid for religious practice - will he benefit from them as much as he would from a Shaykh if he adhered to him and mastered his fiqh?!



"Abandoning the Wird (Litany)"


The scholars have explained this condition to mean complete abandonment. As for one who abandons it out of negligence, there is no renewal required of him except that he repents and adheres to the awrad (litanies). 


All these conditions are a covenant between us and our Shaykh Abu-l Abbas, and indeed between us and Allah, Exalted be He. This is derived from His saying: "Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, [O Muhammad] - they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is over their hands. So he who breaks his word only breaks it to the detriment of himself. And he who fulfills that which he has promised Allah - He will give him a great reward." [Al-Fath 48:10] And a covenant in Islamic Sharia is like a vow and must be fulfilled unless it involves disobedience. So understand and reflect.

اللهم صل على سيدنا محمد الفاتح لما أغلق والخاتم لما سبق ناصر الحق بالحق والهادي إلى صراطك المستقيم وعلى آله حقّ قدره ومقداره العظيم.


" اللهم إني أعوذ بك أن تكلني إلى نفسي فيما أعلم أو تعلم، وأعوذ بك أن يكون حظي مما أكتب شهوة خفية من شهوات النفس، أو عصبيّة مقيتة مما يأتي به الشيطان أو الهوى.


وأسألك اللهم أن تفتح بيننا وبين إخواننا فتحا من عندك، تزول به الغواشي عن الأعين، وترتد به الوساوس والأغراض عن القلوب."


إنّ التجانيّة قوم عرفوا بالتمسك بأهداب الشريعة الإسلامية على مر العصور، ولن يضرّ الشمس نباح الكلاب.


قال شيخنا الختم الكتم أبو العباس التجاني:"إذا سمعتم عني شيئا فزنوه بميزان الشرع وما وافق فخذوه وما خالف فاتركوه" وهذا المقال هو الأصل الذي ينبني عليه كل ما يمتّ إلى الطريقة بصلة، فلو رأينا شيئا نسب إلى طريقتنا مما لا يتماشى مع روح الشريعة الإسلامية نضرب به عُرض الحائط.


قبل أيام نرى على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي قوما وصفوا التجانيّة والطرق الصوفية الأخرى بما يندى القلم عن ذكره، واستعظموا شطروط هذه الطرق بل سوّلت لهم أنفسهم النيل من أولياء الله بدعوى أنهم أتوا بما لم يأت به النبي ونهوا عن ما أمر به النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم.


وها أنا -مع قصر باعي وتجربتي- سأوضّح لهم ما أشكل عليهم في طريق القوم.


قبل الخوض في صلب التوضيح، أبشّر القراء أن الأولياء كلهم على رؤوسنا وليس من حق أحد منا أن ينتقص من قدر أيهم شيئا بدعوى أننا ندافع عن فلان أو ننتمي إلى علان. "تلك أمّة قد خلت لها ما كسبت ولكم ما كسبتم ولا تسئلون عمّا كانوا يعملون"

للطريقة التجانيّة شروط كثيرة ولها عناصر مختلفة، ولكنها لا تعدو ثلاثة:


1. شروط صحة 

2. شروط كمال

3. الشروط العامة 


وأول شرط من هذه الشروط هو الحفاظ على الصلوات المفروضة في الجماعة، وهذا شرط قد أخله كثير من الذين ينتسبون إلى هذه الطريقة الأحمدية الفاضلة في هذه الآونة.


وكلّ يدّعي وصلا بليلى

وليلى لا تقرّ لهم بذاك


ومن الشروط التي لا يستسيغها قوم ما قاله تاج رؤوسنا أبو العباس التجاني: "ثلاثة تقطع التلميذ عنّا، أخذ ورد على وردنا، زيارة الأولياء وترك الورد."


لقد علق على هذه الشروط من لا يستهان بهم من أعلام الطريقة بما فيه الكفاية، لكن العبد الفقير سيلقي دلوه في الدلاء وإن لم يدرك الظالع شأو الضليع.


"عدم أخذ ورد على ورد الشيخ"


إنّ الطرق إلى الله بعدد أنفاس الخلائق فلا يجوز لأحد كائنا من كان أن يتحامل على من سلك طريقة توصله إلى الله ولله في خلقه شؤون.


الوصول إلى حضرة الحق أمر يحتاج فيه المريد اتباع دليل يدله ويقربه إلى تلك الحضرة، ولقد أقر هذا ابن عاشر في المنظومة:


يصحب شيخا عارف المسالك

يقيه في طريقه المهالك


فكل من أراد أن يسلك طريق العارفين فعليه باتباع شيخ مخلص عالم متشوف مكاشف يكشف عنه كل ما يعتري النفس من النجاسات المعنوية.


فهل يمكن له الجمع بين الشيخَين أو أكثر؟

قد عرف قديما في طريق القوم أنه يكون عسيرا جدا أن يصل إلى حضرة الحق من جمع بين واسطتين مثله كمثل من أن أراد أن يسافر على فرسين أني له الوصول؟!


ولقد ضربت لهذا مثلا في بعض منشوراتي عندما قلت:


 لقد جرى بيني وبين بعض إخوتي الأفاضل حديث عن ما يقطع المريد عن الشيخ التجاني فقلت لهم، أترون لو التحق طالب بمدرسة مركزية ليتعلم وهو ما زال طالبا في مدرسة أدبية أو زمرية ، إلى ماذا سيحيل أمره في آخر مطاف دراسته؟


مثل هذا الطالب الذي يريد أن يحصل على العلم من مدرستين مختلفتين في المنهج والتربية كمثل مريد يريد أن يجمع بين طريقتين/شيخين للوصول إلى باب الله.


"عدم زيارة الأولياء"


إن ما قاله الشيخ في عدم زيارة ولي من الأولياء لا يعني التحريم ولا الكراهية وإنما هو حفاظ على قلوب المريدين في تلقي الأنوار، فالأنوار لا تتزاحم ولكنها قد تكون أثقل من قلب مريد ضعيف ما لم تخرج من مشكاة واحدة. وقد يتعسر وصول من له الإلمام بزيارة الأولياء لأن بها تسول له نفسه عدم بلوغ شيخه مقام المشايخ الأخر وهذا يبعده عن الحضرة ولا يعقلها إلا العالمون.


المثال المحسوس لهذا الشرط، لنفترض مثلا أن طالبا إعداديا أو ثانويا يأخذ مادة الفقه من علماء اختلفت مذاهبهم-مع يقيننا بأن المذاهب كلها صالحة للتدين- هل يستفيد منهم بقدر ما يستفيد من شيخ لو لزمه وأتقن فقهه؟!


"ترك الورد"

قد شرح الأعلام هذا الشرط بأن الشيخ يعني فيه الترك الكلي، فأما من تركه تهاونا فلا تجديد عليه إلا أن يتوب ويلازم الأوراد.


كل هذه الشروط عهد بيننا وبين شيخنا أبي العباس بل بيننا وبين الله سبحانه وتعالى ويستفاد هذا من قوله "إن الذين يبايعونك إنما يبايعون الله يد الله فوق أيديهم فمن نكث فإنما ينكث على نفسه ومن أوفى بما عاهد عليه الله فسيؤتيه أجرا عظيما." الفتح. والعهد في الشريعة الإسلامية بمثابة النذر فلا بد من إيفائه ما لم يكن معصية، فافهم وتأمل.

Bughyat al-Mustafid is one of the most important works on the history and rulings of the Tijani Tariqah. Written by Sidi al-Arabi ibn Sa'ih, nicknamed the "Bukhari of the Path", it summarizes the biographical accounts from Jawahir al-Ma'ānī and codifies the rulings of the path that had been scattered in different locations. The author's critical placement in the history of the path, having met many of the Companions of the Shaykh himself, as well as many of the imminent muqaddams, made him an indispensable source of clarity on many of the issues a Tijani disciple will face while walking the path.

The book also serves as a bridge to longer or more complicated works. It has been said, "If you want to read Jawahir al-Ma'ani, read Bughyat al-Mustafid first." This is because he clarifies some of the issues in Jawahir al-Ma'ani that may lead to a disciple having doubts or some misunderstandings.
