ODES ON ISRA AND MI‘RA

TADHAKARTU MAN HUWA LIL-WARĀ KULLIHIM QŪTU

تَذَكَّرْتُ مَنْ هُو لِلْوَرَى كُـلِّـهِمْ قُــوتُ ** وَهُمْ حَجَرٌ وَالْمُصْطَفَى الْقَرْمُ يَاقُـوتُ

Tadhakartu man Huwa lil-warā kullihim qūtu ** wa hum hajarun wa-l mustafā-l qarmu yāqūtu

I commemorate who is a victual for all creation.

All creation are like stone while al-Mustafa, the master is like diamond

فَهُوَ تَجَلِّي الذَّاتِ بَلْ هُوَ عَيْنُهَا ** فَمُلْكُ الْعَلِي مِنْهَا كَــــذَا مَلَكُــوتُ

Fa-Huwa tajallī-dh dhāti bal Huwa 'aynuhā ** fa-mulkul 'alī min'hā kadhā malakūtu

He is the manifestation of Dhat (Allah), he is rather His Essence.

Thus, the Exalted Dominion is from that mystery as well as the kingdom.

لِذَاكَ سَرَى وَالْفَرْشُ مَوْطِئُ نَعْلِهِ ** وَمِنْ هَيْبَةٍ قَدِ انْثَنَى عَنْهُ خِرِّيتُ

Li-dhāka sarā wa-l farshu mauti'u na'ali'i ** wa min haybatin qad unthanā 'an-hu khirrītu

By virtue of that, he journeyed at night (to the heavens) while making al-'Arsh his stepping-stone.

And out of reverential fear, (Angel Jibril) stayed clear of him.

وَسَارَ يَشُقُّ الْحُجْبَ دُونَ مُزَاحِمٍ ** وَلاَ خَادِمٍ إِلاَّ تَثَنَّـــى لَــــهُ لِيــــتُ

Wa sāra yashuqqu-l hujba dūna muzāhimin ** walā khādimin illā tathannā lahu lītu

And he kept on moving, traversing the veils without being vied with.

And there wasn't any servant thereon who did not bow for him.

دَنَـــا فَتَدَلَّى دُونَ كَيْـــفٍ فَإِنَّـــــهُ ** تَقَاصَرَ عَنْ هَـــذَيْنِكَ الْجَبَـرُوتُ

Danā fatadallā dūna kayfin fa-innahu ** taqāsara 'an hadhaynika-l jabarūt

He approached and came closer in no modality. Indeed,

the potently highest platform (Jabarūt) could not attain this position.

فَسِرٌّ سَـرَى لِلسِّـرِّ بِالسِّرِّ وَحْـدَهُ ** فَمَا ثَمَّ إِلاَّ الْحَقُّ وَالسِّرُّ لاَهُــوتُ

Fa-sirri sarā li-s sirri bi-s sirri wah'dahu ** famā thamma illā-l haqqu wa-s sirru Lāhūtu

Thus, a mystery went alone to the mystery by mystery.

Hence, there is nothing thereon save the Ultimate Reality (Allah) and the mystery of Lāhūt

فَيَا لَكَ مِنْ مَرْأًى هُنَاكَ وَمَسْمَــعٍ ** حَوَاهُ حَبِيبُ اللّٰهِ وَالرُّسْلُ مَا أُوتُوا

Fa-Yā laka min mar'hā humāka was masma'in ** hawā'u habeebu-llahi wa-r ruslu mā ūtū

What a magnificent audio-visual scenario of which the best friend of Allah experienced, but which all other Prophets were denied.

فَأَيْنَ طُوًى مِـــنْ ذَا وَأَيْــنَ كَلِيمُـــهُ ** وَأَيْنَ الَّذِي نَاجَى وَمَسْجِدُهُ الْحُوتُ

Fa-ayna Tuwā min dhā wa ayna kalīmuhu ** wa ayna-l ladhī nājā wa masjiduhu-l hūtu

Is Tuwā (sacred valley) and the one addressed thereon (Prophet Mūsā),

or the one who glorified and made Supplication to Allah of which his place of worship was the (belly of the) whale comparable to that?

عَلَيْـــــهِ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ ** بِهَا يَسْهُلُ الْأَرْزَاقُ وَالْعَيْشُ وَالْقُوتُ

'Alayhi salātu-llahi thumma salāmuhu ** bihā yas'hulu-l arzāqu wa-l 'ayshu wa-l qūtu

May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him,

may the effect of that blessing ease our sustenance, livelihood and victual.

عَلَيْـــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ ** فَتُشْرِقُ مِنْ أَنْوَارِهِ الْغُـرِّ نَاسُــــوتُ

'Alayhi salātu-llahi thumma salāmuhu ** fa-tushriqu min anwārihi-l ghurri Nāsūtu

May the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him,

may the effect of that blessing illuminate the otherness.

عَلَيْهِ مَــــعَ الْآلِ الْكِـرَامِ وَصَحْبِــهِ ** صَلاَةٌ مِنَ الرَّحْمَـــانِ وَالرَّحَمُــوتُ

'Alayhi ma'a-l āli-l kirām wa sah'bihi ** salātun mina-r Rahmāni wa-r Rahmūt

And may the blessing from the Merciful be upon him, his venerable household and his companions.
